The full 5 weeks of the 2009 Holiday season will be celebrated on and around the Key
West Harbor Walk of Lights at the Historic Seaport in old town Key West. The natural
beauty of the Key West waterfront is more alive than usual with the sparkle of holiday
lights on the water. The Key West Harbor Walk of Lights stretches for four blocks and
features four, real southern most Christmas Trees. People now gather every year on
the waterfront to enjoy all the lights, stroll the Harbor Walk shops and galleries for that
unique Key West gift, and catch one of the many big and little events that happen along
the Harbor Walk of Lights throughout the entire holiday season. All events are great for
kids of any age and give everyone an excuse to enjoy a few days down at the Key
West waterfront away from the hustle and bustle of the “real world” at Christmas time.
The Key West Harbor Walk kicks off the holiday season on Thanksgiving eve (Nov.
25th) with the “Lighting of the Harbor Walk” followed by a second lighting of the
natural Christmas Trees on December 3rd. The “Key West Harbor Walk of Lights” will
be energized through New Years Eve. There’ll be lots of great family fun events around
the Harbor Walk of Lights throughout the entire holiday season, from a night for
pictures with Santa and your pet, to a gigantic lighted boat parade, a two-day
concert/carnival, and a Free Christmas Music Concert, all outdoors on the waterfront.
The schedule for the 2009 season includes two nights for the kids, one night for the
pets, to get a picture with Santa who’ll be sitting on the Harbor Walk of Lights at the
“Santa by the Bight” events. There’ll also be two nights of Free Classic Christmas
Movies set up outside for the kids (while the parents shop), a “Holiday Art Walk - Open
House & Jewelry Trunk Show” at the Key West Art Bar, and 3 days of the “Bight Wide
Sale” along the Seaport Harbor Walk area with deep discounts at shops, galleries and
on water sports gift certificates. The second weekend of December is full of holiday fun
along the Harbor Walk of Lights, starting with a big two-day event featuring live music,
food, drinks and non-stop entertainment. Called the "Holiday Cayo Carnival", it’s the
new annual benefit for Reef Relief sponsored by the Harbor Branch Oceanographic
Institute and will take place outside at the Conch Republic Seafood Company.
Capping off that holiday weekend there’s the homegrown and always fantastic 19th
annual “Schooner Wharf Bar Lighted Boat Parade” with ships tall and small that pass
the reviewing stand right above the Harbor Walk. The festivities continue on the final
weekend before Christmas with the fourth annual “Free Christmas Concert on the
Harbor Walk of Lights”, featuring 5 diverse musical groups, local and national, that will
cover all your favorite Christmas songs and popular music. That night also features the
“Bite of the Bight” holiday food tasting, along with the Bight Wide sale running all
weekend long. After a great Christmas day, the Key West Harbor Walk continues to be,
the place to be for holiday fun. Many early events will de drop off points for the Just 4
Kids toy drive, and part of event proceeds will benefit this local charity that aids
children and families all year long throughout Monroe County. Then capping off 2009
there’s the “as seen on CNN” New Year’s Eve - Schooner Wharf Bar “Lowering of the
Wench” down a tall ship’s mast at midnight, right next the Harbor Walk of Lights.
We'll see you, your family and friends at the old Key West Bight, before Christmas.

The 2009 Key West “Bight Before Christmas” Holiday Celebration at the Historic Seaport is produced
by the Key West Bight Preservation Association and the tenants of the Historic Seaport, in cooperation
with Historic Seaport Management and the City of Key West
Parking for the Bight Before Christmas events is at the City Lot at the corner of Margret and Catherin Streets.
